For everyday makeup, I have a handful of go-to’s for my lip color. I prefer a long-lasting lipstick that doesn’t budge or smudge. I want to know that I can eat, enjoy, laugh, and smooch without a worry.
Without spending on a luxury price tag, and with so many drug store lipsticks, how can anyone know which marketing claims prove true?
In this article, I will include my personal favorite drugstore long lasting lipsticks along with those I think are over-hyped.
Best Maybelline Long Lasting Lipsticks
- Maybelline Maybelline New York SuperStay Ink Crayon Matte Longwear Lipstick – this lipstick can double as a lip liner and lipstick with a convenient built-in sharpener. The formula is thick and pigmented with one application and matte. This is not mask proof–it’s the question we all need to ask these days. You won’t remove your mask to find yourself smudged like the joker, but there is a bit of transfer. Overall, it’s a top pick.
- Maybelline New York SuperStay Matte Ink Un-nude Liquid Lipstick – this lipstick is within the same line as the crayon but in liquid form. The formula is extremely thick (too thick for my liking) but requires only one coat for a full pigment matte finish. The primary cons to this formula are the smell and its somewhat drying. Maybelline released a birthday cake scented limited line perhaps to remedy the issue. However, do not apply more than one coat. Coating up may lead to what I had experienced – cracking as the day wears on and some odd flaking with eating and wear. I could feel the product getting grainy on my lips as the day wore on. The bottom line is it will stay on all day and into the next day. It’s so strong that Maybelline crafted a remover specifically for this formula.
Best L’Oreal Long Lasting Lipstick
- L’Oreal Paris Makeup Rouge Signature Matte Lip Stain – Gosh, this is one of my all-time favorite products. The formula is smooth and weightless. Unlike other drugstore formulas that are long-lasting, they often a trade-off for a thicker-based product. This does not have the staying power that the others can claim, but it lasts long enough to be a contender. It has a beautiful finish and is comfortable to wear. It may require a mid-day touch-up, but overall this is one of my all-time go-to’s.
- L’OrΓ©al Paris Infallible Pro Last 2 Step Lipstick – this is a bang for your buck– a 2-in-one matt and light shine long wear lipstick. This Duo has an applicator end for the color that dries matte but has a second dual end with a moisturizing formula at the opposite end. It gives your color that luscious juicy finish. I do feel the color palette is a bit limited compared to others but it’s not a deal breaker. One coat is all you need or you risk (like, with others) flaking.
Drugstore vs. High-End Makeup
To be honest, I’m going to say that there is a DEFINITE difference in quality with higher-end products. That doesn’t mean drug store quality is something to avoid or not use, but when it comes to you getting what you pay for–it’s true. Dior and Chanel make WONDERFUL long lasting lipsticks that do not even hold a candle to any drug store products I have tried. But when it’s not within budget, we need other options–these beauty household names like Maybelline, L’Oreal, and Revlon have put out some fantastic products. I hope to review more in the future because we all need affordable options!
This blog post was all about my top drug store long lasting lipstick choices from household names like Maybelline and L’Oreal that split the difference between cost and quality.
