A bridal shower backdrop is the new “MUST” for any bridal shower event. It’s essentially the statement piece that captures attention and sets the color theme for your bridal shower. I’ve seen basic streamer walls, greenery walls, flower walls, and the newer panel backdrops. They can be as simple or as lavish as you want it to be.
This post will share why I chose a panel bridal shower backdrop, the materials I used to build the backdrops, and links to the products I used.
In this blog post, you will learn all about whether a DIY bridal shower backdrop is right for your bride OR maybe you’re just looking for a bridal shower backdrop idea.

Bridal Shower Backdrop Ideas | Bridal Seat vs Backdrop
I first decided to make a general backdrop versus a bridal seat, because we were planning a large bridal shower that included more than just my sister’s closest girlfriends. She also did not want any gifts, which negated the need for her to sit in front of everyone. I also wanted a backdrop that would gently pull attention, whilst also being a great place for her to take pictures with all her guests.
Backdrop Materials
This DIY bridal shower backdrop, although less expensive than purchasing a permanent install, is labor and material intensive.
- 40″ x 60″ foam board – available at Hobby Lobby – $13.99
- Spray Paint in your themed colors
- PVC pipe
- Vinyl lettering – THIS IS OPTIONAL –
The step-by-step
Step 1: The hardest part of the ENTIRE process is symmetrically cutting the boards. I wanted an arched style. I recommend cutting one side of the arch. Take the cut piece that falls off and use that as a stencil on the other side. That yields the most matched cuts from board to board.
Step 2: The painting.
- Be sure to paint in consistent, but thin layers. If you spray in one spot for too long or try and coat the entire board the first round, you will get the most unevent looking finish.
- Be sure to also spray on an even surface because any excess paint will drip downwards and dry in that position.
- Lastly once all coats are applied, place the boards in a non-humid environment. Humid environments will cause the boards to bend.
Optional: I ordered custom vinyl lettering. I made the design in Canva. Apply the lettering last after the paint has completely dried.
Step 3: The PVC Pipe
- when you are ready to position your boards, attach the pipe to the back of the boards. I used strong duct tape because no one would see the back of the boards. Leave excess pipe at the bottom of the sign. The bottom end of the pipe should go directly into the ground to secure the panels.
Step 4: The balloons are added after the panels are completely secured.
Bridal Backdrop with Balloons
I also added the balloons to this backdrop myself. I prefer double-stuffed balloons for outside events. It’s hard to avoid complete color oxidation with balloons, but I recommend keeping your balloon clusters inside trash bags until you’re ready to hang your garland.
- Link to the balloons I used – I purchased two bags of this double stuffed kit on Amazon
Lastly, I added individual faux flowers as a touch of flair that I felt brought the backdrop to the next level! You probably would never guess, but the flowers are all from Dollar Tree.
