Ariana Grande brought this high-popping ponytail onto the scene, and she’s surrounded by professional stylists that help her achieve this look. Maybe you’ve tried this out for yourself — I know I have. But, here’s the catch. It didn’t work.
I’ve LITERALLY tried every “hack” there is on pinterest, IG, tik tok. None of them worked for me. Why? Well, I have long hair. Not shoulder length long but nearly down to my hips LONG. With that much length comes weight.
This post will share my foolproof secret to achieving a seriously voluminous ponytail without the hassle of multiple ponytails within a ponytail or numerous rubber bands. You will have the PERFECT Ariana Grande style inspired ponytail!

The secret tool you need
This small clip (The Pony Popper Hair Clip) is all you need. For under $10 on amazon, this hair accessory saves any ponytail of any hair length. You’ll only need a bit of practice at first to learn the proper placement for yourself.
Placement
I like to place the clip exactly where I want the highest point of my ponytail to sit. For example, for a middle ponytail, you’d put the clip directly in the back center of your head. For a high ponytail, place the clip at the crown of my head. The amount of hair you gather within the clip should be minimal. You’ll need the remainder of your hair to gather around the clip to keep the clip itself concealed completely.
Hair Length
Let me quickly answer the question: Does this work for all hair lengths? Answer: kind of sort of. I believe that this clip will add a “pop” to any ponytail with enough length to conceal the clip. Shoulder-length hair would be my presumed minimum.
Hair Thickness
By the innate mechanism of this tool, I, unfortunately, believe that superfine or thin hair will not work well. This is a bit more of an experimental variable on a per-trial basis.
Bonus tools for EXTRA tail volume
When I prefer a fuller “tail” of my pony rather than the typical straight-sleeked Ariana Grande ponytail, I do one extra step with a special crimper. I believe it truly brings more oomph to the overall look. It’s made by Hot Tools and places fine crimps along the length of your hair so that your stands of hair stack upon one another rather than lay flat. I also like to use this finishing cream for fly aways to achieve a slick look at the front. Those are my last finishing touches!
